Because self-examination is a convenient, private, and cost-effective method, the results of a paternity test using the self-collection method cannot include the name of the person being examined, as we cannot verify who is being examined. Therefore, this method cannot be used as a legal document.

2. Appointment for DNA testing to prove father-child relationship without using legal documents.

Supporting documents for DNA testing to prove paternity

  1. Documents from the man who wishes to verify paternity
    • Original national ID card in the case of Thai nationals or original passport in the case of foreigners.
  2. Child’s documents
    • Birth certificate of the child with the mother’s name on the birth certificate
  3. Mother’s documents
    • A mother or legal guardian must be present if the service recipient is under 20 years of age.
      • Mother’s original national identity card
      • The mother must sign a consent form for the examination.
      • If the mother dies, bring the death certificate to show to the officials as evidence and must have a legal guardian along with the original documents of the legal guardian.
    • In the case where the examinee has reached the age of majority, the mother is not required to be present.

** If the service recipient has changed their name or surname, they must bring the original name or surname change document to present to the officer as evidence.

  2. In the case where the service recipient is under 20 years of age, the mother must sign a consent form for the examination. If the mother is deceased, the death certificate must be presented to the officer as evidence.

Paternity testing process

Verify personal information: ID card, birth certificate, or passport.

In the case of an appointment for service and there is no identification document or the name does not match, the name of the person being examined will not be included on the examination results sheet.

Undergo DNA sampling by buccal swab and photograph.

Cost of DNA testing to confirm paternity

In cases where legal documents are not required: Father-child pair, 12,000 baht, receive test results within 7-14 days (service available at home)

In case of needing legal documents: Father-child 1 pair 22,000 baht, receive test results within 30 days (must receive service at the center only)

Paternity testing is not accepted in the following cases:

  1. Amniotic fluid, umbilical cord blood, or any part of the fetus in the womb.
  2. Various types of evidence such as hair, nails, blood, or personal items that may contain genetic material samples.

The father-child DNA test result cannot be included in the following cases:

  1. Collect the specimens yourself
  2. One of them does not have an ID card, birth certificate, or passport.
    • If an appointment has been made and the officer arrives at the inspection location but is unable to present the documents, but a new appointment is required to present the documents, an additional travel fee of 1,000 baht will be charged per appointment.
  3. First and last name do not match the name on the ID card, birth certificate, or passport.
